Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi is a visual artist currently at the forefront of contemporary art in India. His significant position was solidified in 2025 with a landmark mid-career retrospective at Bikaner House in New Delhi. This major exhibition, surveying his work from 2000 to 2024, was accompanied by the launch of two definitive monographs, Hybrid Beings and Bone Marrow to Butterfly (Aleph Book Company). This achievement builds on a distinguished career with major solo exhibitions in Lucknow (2003), New Delhi (2007), Hong Kong (2012), and Singapore (2023). Chaturvedi’s practice is a multidisciplinary, diverse medium,  spanning drawing, painting, and complex sculptures in fibreglass, wood, and stainless steel, despite his first love for extensive large-format paperwork. While his anthropomorphic figures are central, he also explores themes of transformation and memory in a parallel series on butterflies, bougainvillaea, wings, and coins. A graduate of the College of Art and Craft, University of Lucknow (B.F.A. & M.F.A.), His work has been extensively showcased in various international exhibitions, as Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice; Keumsan Gallery, Heyri Art Valley, Seoul; Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul; The Modern & Contemporary Art, Dallas; The Asian, American and European Modern & Contemporary Art, New York, and others. His artistic journey is also the subject of the acclaimed 2012 documentary, “The Metamorphosis.” He is based in New Delhi and has received six awards. Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi continues to be a vital, challenging force in art, creating work that demands we look beyond appearances and confront the fragile truths of our time.
